Piper's Peak September 2023 Fly Fishing Adventure: A Day to Remember

This September, Piper's Peak hosted an unforgettable Fly Fishing Adventure, welcoming mothers and their children to explore the joys of fly fishing. This event was a unique opportunity for families to bond, learn, and experience the serenity of nature together.

The day began in a classroom setting, where participants were introduced to the fascinating world of fish and their ecosystems. Our knowledgeable instructors, Chad Chorney and Kelly Jones from Picabo Angler, shared their expertise on the basics of fly fishing. They covered everything from the types of equipment used to the techniques necessary for a successful day on the water. The children and their mothers were eager to learn, asking insightful questions and showing genuine interest in the subject.

Following the classroom session, we moved to the casting class. Here, the theoretical knowledge gained was put into practice. Under the guidance of our experienced mentors, the participants learned how to cast a line, control their movements, and understand the subtle nuances of fly fishing. The hands-on experience was invaluable, and it was heartwarming to see mothers and their children helping each other, laughing, and celebrating small victories together.

The highlight of the event was the big adventure day on the Big Wood River. Armed with their newly acquired skills and a sense of excitement, the participants took to the water. The river, with its clear, flowing water and serene surroundings, provided the perfect backdrop for this adventure. Under the watchful eyes of our guides, Joseph Evans and Bradley Funkhouser from Picabo Angler, the mothers and children cast their lines, patiently waiting for a bite. The joy and excitement on their faces when they caught their first fish were priceless. It was a day filled with laughter, learning, and making memories that will last a lifetime.

We are immensely grateful to our sponsors and supporters who made this event possible. A heartfelt thank you to Silver Creek Outfitters for providing the gear, ensuring everyone was well-equipped for the adventure. Our thanks also go to the Ketchum Fire Department for generously offering their classroom space, making the learning experience comfortable and convenient.

Special recognition goes to Chad Chorney, Kelly Jones, Joseph Evans, and Bradley Funkhouser from Picabo Angler for their exceptional education and guidance. Their passion and dedication were evident and greatly appreciated by all participants. We also extend our gratitude to Sawtooth Brewery for providing a delicious lunch, keeping everyone fueled and energized throughout the day, and the Limelight Hotel for putting up the out of town participants.

Lastly, we want to acknowledge our wonderful volunteers and those who donated gear for the goodie bags. Your support and generosity played a crucial role in the success of this event.

The September 2023 Fly Fishing Adventure at Piper's Peak was more than just a day out on the water; it was an opportunity for mothers and children to connect, learn, and create lasting memories. We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future, bringing families together and fostering a love for the great outdoors.
